A Pot Of L’oreal Infallible Eyeshadow Goldmine At The End Of The Rainbow

February 23, 2012 by Bun Bun 18 Comments

According to an Irish folktale, fairies leave a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and Leprechauns guard it. Only those who have put in hard work, persevere and hold hope in their hearts will find their own pot of gold. This saying is really to exemplify that perseverance and hard work will bring you the results you desire.

Realistically, since a rainbow is really a circle of continuous light, there is no end to it. So no pot of gold. :(

However we can seek comfort in the knowledge that we can have our own man-made pots of gold, like the L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow Goldmine.

Just when I was about to resign to fate that I’d probably not own Goldmine in my life, and wished to forget and move on, a kind reader offered to get me Goldmine in exchange for Emerald Lame. She’d fallen in love with it having read my review on the L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow Emerald Lame. If you haven’t seen or read the Emerald Lame review, it is a GORGEOUS emerald green that shimmers in warm bronze undertones.

She would get her friend from France, where the Infallible Eyeshadows are manufactured, to get Goldmine for me. I was ecstatic!

However, at the same time, I’d seen more than a few L’Oreal counters and stands that have had the entire range wiped out. Oh dearie me! Luckily, I managed to grab the second last one at NEX Guardian (almost did a happy dance while queuing at the cashier!).

I believe these little pots of happiness still lie in inconspicuous corners of shops around the island, so if you wish with all your heart to find it, you will find your own pot of (green) gold. Only the purest and earnest of hearts will be granted visibility. Heh heh. You’d have a higher chance of seeing Emerald Lame and Bronze Goddess in Singapore than Goldmine though as Goldmine is part of a Limited Edition collection.

So the two packages crossed continents and landed on the same day for both of us. Isn’t she sweet to include other stuff too? I love the L’Occitane moisturizers!

Lovely As An Overall Lid Or Inner Corner Color

Loreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Goldmine is a cool, light gold, quite unlike the MAC eyeshadow that bears the same name. It looks like a pearl base with gold shimmer bits, looks gold from some angles, pearl from other angles, and even taupe under different lighting. I love multi-dimensional eyeshadows!

Because the Loreal Infallible Eyeshadows are a breeze to apply to the eye area, you only need a light swipe in the pot to bring instant brightening effects to the eye. Goldmine is the sheerest shade of all the five L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows available in Singapore.

With only Goldmine.

Bun Bun’s Makeup Tip: Should you wish to use Goldmine as an overall lid color, try to avoid wearing it alone as the light gold might make you look very yellow or washed-out, depending on your skin undertone. Add a bit of color on the eye contour area (read: How to define my eye contour area) and eyeliner is a must!!!

I wore it without eyeliner one day to test how it would look and wear and my friends commented that I looked really yellow that day, more like SpongeBob SquarePants than Little Miss Sunshine like before since I was obviously missing the positive glow. Lol.

I always test a makeup product in as many ways as possible, with different products, just so that I can be as truthful in my product reviews as possible. So if you bump into me one day with badly smudged eyeliner or looking washed out with no blush, it’s not my fault, yo! Must be the products! HAHAHA!

Here’s the SpongeBob SquarePants eye makeup look without eyeliner:

Must be the yellow hairband!!

More Fallout Than Emerald Lame And Bronze Goddess

Goldmine swatches more chalky than its fellow colors and when applied on the eye, results in more fallout. I think the golden bits generally have less adhesiveness.

Bun Bun’s Makeup Tip: If you experience fallout from Goldmine, or any glittery, shimmery eyeshadows, use scotch tape to ‘paste’ them away. This method is so much more effective than using your fingers to flick the bits away as foundation will not be affected as much.

Get More Precision With Sponge Applicators And Fingers

I don’t recommend using a natural hair makeup brush like the MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush to apply the Infallible Eyeshadows as firstly, the brush cannot pick up product as easily as a synthetic one. Before I tried sponge applicators and fingers, I found that a Loew-Cornell brush with synthetic bristles worked better.

Fingers are a preferred tool to brushes, but because an index finger is much less flexible than brushes, the tendency to get it on unintended places is high. More fallout results because of that too.

The best way to apply L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows, I have discovered, is to use sponge applicators. I always throw away/put aside the applicators that come with eyeshadow palettes so some rummaging had to be done to find one. Found a double-ended on in my Urban Decay Ammo Palette. It was then that I realized nothing beat a sponge applicator when applying these Infallibles! I went out to buy a sponge applicator that works like a replaceable pencil in a recent haul.

On another note, I also read from somewhere that a pot of gold was used to refer to a pot of spuds, which was valuable and rare during famine in Ireland. Parents would tell their children whenever a rainbow occurred that a pot of spuds is waiting for them at the end of it and the children would go look for their pots of spuds. Parents did that in the hope that the children would get lost and never return, so that they less mouths to feed. So funny, but also… quite sad if it were true. :(

The Goldmine Loreal Infallible Eyeshadow is not like Eternal Sunshine, which is a more yellow gold than Goldmine.

Unfortunately, I could not find the sale of Goldmine, Emerald Lame, or Bronze Goddess online. Some of the shades are exclusive to certain countries.

But here are three popular L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow shades available for purchase online:

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows Eternal Sunshine

Where to buy: (Amazon)

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows Amber Rush

Where to buy: (Amazon)

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows Golden Sage

Where to buy: (Amazon)

Bun Bun rates the L’oreal Infallible Eyeshadow Goldmine:

What is your favorite GOLD eyeshadow? Does wearing gold eyeshadow alone make you look… yellow? Lol!

Metro is one big department store. Cosmetics are on level 1 and once you walk in you'll see L'Oreal. Good luck!

Hi Mei, I'm afraid I cannot give you an exact location as it's sold out at most places. A reader most recently told me that she managed to grab Emerald Lame and Bronze Goddess at Compasspoint Metro (Sengkang MRT).

Hello Bun Bun, I'm happy to read that you love Goldmine. I love Emerald Lame, really gorgeous color. I get a lot of compliments when I wear it. Last month I went to L'Oreal headquaters to participate to a test of a hair care product. I got so many compliments and was so happy to tell everyone there that it was from L'oreal but not available in France ;) love

Ooooo purdy...and you are right about rainbows, those leprechaun tricked us!! XD My cousin was in Sg a few weeks back and was hoping she would find any L'oreal Infallible but to my sadness and dismay she said it was sold out..I am sad. :P I was hoping to get my hands on Emerald lame and the bronze one...oh well. Someday in the future we will meet :P On another note...I like the swatch of this but if it was me..I would probably look horrible with this color :O but thats just me... I love golds tho x0x0

Bun Bun

Nah, I don't think Goldmine will look horrible on you! Wearing it alone may look weird (and yellow!) but you just need to match it with other colors and a dark eyeliner. It's a pity your cousin wasn't able to get her hands on Emerald Lame and Bronze Goddess. =(

I have amber rush and bronzed toupe. I like them both but amber rush needs to be worn with UDPP or else it's not gonna stay on. I love how metallic and pretty the colors are though.

Sounds good! I wanted to order Amber Rush from drugstore.com a couple of weeks ago and it was out of stock! I recently checked back but the desire to get it was... gone. Haha

Hey Bun Bun, congrats on finally laying your hands on Goldmine! I've never worn a gold shadow by itself so I don't know if it'd make me look yellow. Maybe I should try lol My favorite is probably MAC Woodwinked, though I do really enjoy Urban Decay Half Baked and the gold side of L'Oreal Metallic HiP duo in Gilded too :)

Bun Bun
Bun Bun 5pts

SOOOO happy when I received it! Yup, I thought I remember you mentioning before that you like Half Baked, which is a dark gold and not like pure gleaming gold lol. Gold looks rather awesome on us yellow-toned Asian girls. :)

I agree that is why we (warm blooded) can look best on gold accessories too than the silver ones :)

True, very true! But I cannot carry all types of gold. Like those antique or faded gold... they make me look either old or washed out.
