Bun Bun’s First Birthday + Giveaway!

March 3, 2012 by Bun Bun 45 Comments

When the clock strikes midnight, I’d love to tickle her tummy, rub her behind the ears, put her chubby cheeks in my mouth and whisper in her ear “Happy birthday my dearest, you made it to a year.”

Well, if only Bun Bun were real, that is.

However, I don’t think I’d like to wish that she were real – like in flesh and blood – I would totally freak out. @_@”

About one year ago, http://bunbunmakeuptips.com went live. I say ‘about’ because I can’t remember when exactly. The first post was published on 21 February 2011 and I didn’t have Bun Bun as my blog mascot until much later (the Bun Bun image at the bottom of that first post was included later).

So Bun Bun’s birthday is really… arbitrary. Hoho. I thought 3rd March would be a nice date since it’s easy for me to remember and also because my birthday is on 3rd July. Three is a lucky number. When we take pictures we always say ‘1, 2, 3!’, and we have Three Little Pigs, and Three Blind Mice, and Three Billy Goats Gruff, and Three Musketeers…….

The house style and editorial voice of my Bun Bun blog was set somewhere in late September 2011, after the launch of the current blog design. It took me a while to find my voice and identity, and stand out from the very crowded (but awesome) beauty and makeup community.

At the start, I wasn’t worried so much that I would run out of topics to blog about, but more that nobody would read what I write. Haha. Come on, let’s be honest, we all put our face (and sometimes our soul) out there because we want to share and have people communicating with us based on what we write. Nobody wants to write for nobody forever. For a few of months, I was super lonely but I kept going.

When my friends asked ‘How do you always find something to write?”, I realized that I never stopped having ideas. You should check out my backlog of product reviews, man. I’m buying faster than I’m reviewing.

Hundreds of posts later (that averages to about 3 posts per week – fair enough), I still love what I’m doing and am thankful for what the beauty community has given – the making of new friends, online and in person, and knowing that other bloggers also say ‘blogging can be lonely’ somewhat makes me feel less lonely.

Thank you so much, each of you.

So come, come, celebrate with me. To all my readers, those who’ve been with me from the start to those newly acquired, here’s Bun Bun’s first birthday giveaway!

There will be TWO GIVEAWAYS; the second one very much dependent on the first giveaway’s response. If there are at least 200 entries in this giveaway then the second giveaway will be ‘unlocked’. Lol. Some of my super duper favorite things are in this giveaway, some in the second (hint: L’OREAL COLOR INFALLIBLE EYESHADOW EMERALD LAME (You need Emerald Lame, girl! :D ).

Hi there! I found BBMT when searching for reviews on L'oreal's 24 Hr Infallible eye shadows. One thing led to another and here I am! :) I like your posts on make up for Asian eyes! I have small eyes and monolids so eye makeup's sometimes a hassle. Every eye product out there assumes you have double eyelids. What I wouldn't mind reading about (in future) are how to match foundation shades to Asian skin. I'm still hopeless at this :( Bun Bun's Fun! ;)

I found your website on a much love makeup forum quite a long time ago! What I love: GREAT, clear photos of the products you review and your bubbly, happy personality in your blog. What I don't like: for some odd reason, I can't see any pictures using google chrome. I have to use internet explorer...What I'd like to see in the future: definitely more reviews! I'd describe bbmt: enthusiastic, happy and resourceful lol Happy Birthday bun bun!

One of the things that first drew my interest to this blog was the reviews of Asian products, I'm always interested in make up and skin care, etc. that perhaps isn't available in my area (but it still wonderful and useful!) but the thing that cemented my love forever was the tutorials on Asian eye make up and how to do it. I am so glad to see someone who can speak intelligently and well on the subject of diversity of products and techniques needed for non-Caucasian people. I'm so glad I found this blog, because it helps me improve my own skills and gives me great tips on wonderful products. I'd love to see more information on skin care products (so good to see a skin regime that matches my own needs!). Three words that describe this blog: Informative, Fun, and Enthusiastic

I don't remember exactly how I found you, maybe by googling monolid eye makeup. I stayed and subscribed because you are cute, your writing is funny, and those posts about different styles of monolid makeup was incredible. Plus that description with photos of all the different types of Asian eyes: wow, I've never seen anything like it. In three words: educational, fun, feminine. BTW, March 3 is a good day for your anniversary also because it's Japanese Girls Day (third day of the third month.) Congrats!

Okay so here I go (like Hercules' 12 labours!). I found BBMT because of... gosh... what was it because of? i THINK it was because of a makeup review. Google Search did a good job in bringing me to this blog and I've not regretted coming here. BBMT is honest, straight-to-the-point, valuable. And i love the yummy description that Juli uses :) Would love to see more beauty products reviewed, especially those that are not as widely acclaimed (example, Boujois Glitter Eyeliner!)

I found BBMT on google when searching for smudge-proof mascara! Loved the way you write your reviews and decide to subscribe :) I hope that you will have an updated column/header that features all your current HG items, so its easier to search.. :) Possible to list Singapore prices (approx will be good too) when you speak about the items? Normally you link the items to ebay... 3 words: cute, easy to read, useful tips!

I found BBMT by googling for makeup tips on my asian eyes. I subscribed b/c the graphics immediately caught my eye (so cute & fresh) and the posts are addicting! What I love about BBMT: Juli's personality, unique asian perspective, great prodz reviews What I don't love: makes me break my no-buys >:( Topics I'd like to see covered: Skin tones/colors, strategies to deal with makeup addiction, your current morning/evening routine, oh yes and more eye looks :D BBMT in 3 words: sunny, informative, engaging

Tati

I found BBMT through Karen at Makeup and Beauty Blog after your guest post there. I subscribed becuase I love your simple, clean and honest writing style. You're also very good at what you write about. That's what I love about your blog. You should do a top 10 "can't live without" makeup products post, that would be really cool! A 3 word description of BBMT: my favorite blog. :)

Christine

I originally found you while searching for a review about bobbi brown's gel eyeliner. I stopped myself from closing the window when I noticed that you were asian, hoping that you might have some monolid tips to share. Though you have doe eyes, I somehow read almost every post you wrote and then eventually suscribed. I'd have to say its mostly because of two things: I like your writing style, it shows personality & I learn so much from your posts! Like the difference between smudgeproof and waterproof! Asian "crease" and basic eyeshadow techniques! I'd describe bbmt as: meticulous, cute, honest Your writing is: vivacious, detailed/thorough, well structured As you can see, I appreciate the effort you put into your work and the genuine opinions that you have to offer. (:
