So That You Can Get Your Brows Filled In 10 Seconds, Get The Lioele Artist Auto Eyebrow Pencil!

March 26, 2012 by Bun Bun 28 Comments

We can’t go running to the store or click ‘Add to cart’ every time a blogger raves about a ‘Holy Grail product, can we?

Coz if that were really the case, there would be no war in this world since all Beauty Bloggers are people with big hearts and ambassadors of all things beautiful, and the governments would employ us all to spread the message of love and world peace. Lol.

Ah, but then there’s always the lure of the dark side. And that’s why there are bad people in the world in the first place.

I took long enough to buy the Lioele auto eyebrow pencil because I was happy with my NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil. For a softer and more natural look, I would use The Face Shop Cake Eyebrow too.

Not that I’ve become unhappy with those two excellent eyebrow products, but it’s in my blood to constantly seek change. And great change I experienced when I dyed my hair more yellow-gold and brown than my normal shades of dark brown. The NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil was simply too brown.

My interest for the Lioele Artist Auto Eyebrow Pencil was piqued when I first watched frmheadtotoe‘s review of it, but it was my readers who got me off my butt and go get it. They were like “you’ve got to try it!”, “it’s the best eyebrow pencil ever!”, “you will love it!!”.

Upon application I immediately understood the enthusiasm of its strong following. The crux of writing this review of the Lioele Auto Eyebrow Pencil is really to tell you:

“GO GET IT!!!” :D

Flat, Angled Tip For Precision

This is how the brand new pencil end looks like – edgily sharp. It may hurt a teeny tiny little when you use it for the first time, and takes a couple of uses before the edges are rounded and feel smooth during application.

Brand new

After some time

NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil: Cheap And Good Alternative To MAC Eyebrow Pencil

March 21, 2012 by Bun Bun 11 Comments

Before I got started on writing this NYX Automatic Eyebrow Pencil review, I went to read the MAC Automatic Eyebrow Pencil review written 11 months ago. I love reading old posts, they make me realize how much I’ve grown, how my writing style has improved, photography skills have progressed, and some throw me back to the moment when I was writing them, allowing me to relive memories.

If I had access to endless supplies of MAC products without forking out a single cent (your wish, my wish, every makeup obsessed person’s wish), I would say the MAC Eyebrow Pencil is an ideal pencil. There are about 5 shades to choose from on the MAC website (I don’t know why Brunette isn’t one of them. It’s available in MAC Singapore though), a precise tip, and since I have endless free supply to MAC products, I can simply throw one away when I twist it up too much causing the product to break.

But because the probability of that wish coming true is as good as believing that Bun Bun will become a real fairy, and my pocket and brain were telling me there must be as good and cheaper alternatives to the MAC automatic brow pencil out there, I soon found myself in possession of the NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil.

Pigmented Brow Color

The NYX Automatic Eyebrow Pencil goes on very smoothly, much smoother than those pencils that need manual sharpening, like the Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil (another old post!).

You don’t need a lot of effort to get great color payoff, and this intense pigmentation might be a bane to some since you might have to be light-handed to avoid having dark slugs as brows at first. Once you get the hang of it though, this NYX brow pencil is a great time saver since just a few strokes are needed to alter light-colored brows to defined ones.

NYX Auto Brow Pencil has better staying power than MAC Auto Brow Pencil.

GO DRUGSTORE!!! :D

Eyeshadow Tutorial for Asian Eyes Part 5 – Horizontal Gradient Method

March 15, 2012 by Bun Bun 43 Comments

At long last, we have come to the fifth installment of the Eyeshadow Tutorial for Asian Eyes series. Here, we will discuss the Horizontal Gradient Method of eyeshadow application.

(Ah yes, if you’re confused why this is the ‘Horizontal Method’, especially since this term was already used in Part 2, then you ought to read this post!)

Lest you get lost in the sea of information in this tutorial, you might want to first check out the other episodes in this series:

Part 1: Where to Apply Eyeshadow

Part 2: Vertical Gradient Method

Part 3: Defining the Outer V

Part 4: Defining the Contour Area

Part 5: Horizontal Gradient Method

The difference between the Horizontal Gradient Method and Vertical Gradient Method is, quite obviously, the way in which the gradient flows.

From my observations and research, the Horizontal Gradient Method is more well-known and commonly practised in the Caucasian makeup world because their larger lid space allows for more colors to be placed and, unlike many Asians, do not have as heavily hooded eyelids. Most Caucasians only experience hooded lids when they age.

Half of the world’s Asians do not have a Fold in the Lid at all; they have monolids and can be referred to as Mongoloids (Wikipedia). (It has been brought to my attention by some concerned readers that this term has negative connotations. I used the term in an anthropological context and hope no offense is taken.)

The Horizontal Gradient Method of eyeshadow application is also one of the ways to shape the eye and adjust the distance between eyes.

In my post on the types of eye makeup for different types of eyes, I wrote about manipulating the Outer 1/3 of the Lid to create the illusion of a wider or narrower gap between the eyes. You can also manipulate the Outer-V (Where is the Outer V?) to widen or bridge the gap.

Having horizontal gradients on the Lid requires blending – you really have to blend well – otherwise the eye makeup look will look block-ish. What we want is a smooth transition of one color to the next – left to right to left.

A Pot Of L’oreal Infallible Eyeshadow Goldmine At The End Of The Rainbow

February 23, 2012 by Bun Bun 18 Comments

According to an Irish folktale, fairies leave a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and Leprechauns guard it. Only those who have put in hard work, persevere and hold hope in their hearts will find their own pot of gold. This saying is really to exemplify that perseverance and hard work will bring you the results you desire.

Realistically, since a rainbow is really a circle of continuous light, there is no end to it. So no pot of gold. :(

However we can seek comfort in the knowledge that we can have our own man-made pots of gold, like the L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow Goldmine.

If Words Could Kill, So Could The Korean Clio Professional Waterproof Brush Liner Kill Black

February 14, 2012 by Bun Bun 26 Comments

Had I gotten hold of the Clio Professional Waterproof Kill Black Brush Liner when I first started experimenting with liquid liners, I dare say my adoration for gel liners would have been repressed.

My two greatest regret eyeliner purchases stand ostensibly in the wands of the MAC Liquidlast Liner in Inky and Lancome Artliner because they never fail to make me sigh whenever I try to create miracles with them. Them lying there useless in the corner makes me go ‘tsk’.

One, or two, (okie more than a few) expensive setbacks will not make me throw the towel and swear never to go near liquid eyeliners, as proven by the successful chance acquisition of the Bourjois Glitter Eye Liners. Nevertheless, I’ve become more cautious with buying liquid eyeliners!

I first tried the Clio Waterproof Kill Black Brush Liner at Ngee Ann City Watsons – which has the largest makeup brands and collections at any Watsons in Singapore – and immediately feel in love with it!

I swatched it once, went ‘WOW’, walked away, swatched afain, went ‘OMFG’, walked away, swatched again, and told myself this must be another ‘TGTBT’ (Too Good To Be True) product.

Like a lovelorn teenager nursing a crush, I couldn’t get the Clio Waterproof Brush Liner Kill Black out of my mind.
