Gimme Fluttery Eyelashes: Dior Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum Review

October 8, 2012 by Bun Bun 5 Comments

Somebody told me I look like a chipmunk in this photo. LOL!

When the last of my previous lash primer – Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base – dried up, I was in search for the next best eyelash primer, mascara primer, or mascara base, whatever you call it.

A mascara primer is applied before mascara to comb and coat each lash for smoother and more even mascara application. Just like how foundation primer, eyeshadow primer work.

After doing a ton of research, my search was narrowed down to Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum and Lancome Cils Booster XL Super Enhancing Mascara Base.

I was originally inclined to get the Lancome mascara base since the Lancome Oscillation Vibrating Infinite Power Mascara was one of my favorite mascaras. On the other hand, Dior’s Diorshow Iconic Extreme Mascara didn’t leave a good impression on me (dry and clumpy and flaky =__=”), yet despite that, I finally got the Dior lash primer. Simply because reviews on blogs and MUA seemed better. Reviews are so important! (That’s why you’re reading this heh heh)

Chic Packaging

The packaging is expected of a high-end brand like Dior and it stands out with its white tube in my stash of black mascara tubes.

I like that the exterior still looks very much like when I first had it, despite all the tossing and rough handling when I look for it in my mascara drawer. Not that it’s hard to spot though.

The Smashbox Lash Primer looked dilapidated with its peeled wording and faded texture; the Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base had scratches all over. I’m sure this Dior one has battle scars aplenty, just that the chic glossy packaging covers it all up nicely.

10 Mascaras I Am Throwing Away For The New Year

January 6, 2012 by Bun Bun 24 Comments

I’m ashamed.

The title of this post was initially ‘10 Makeup Products I Am Throwing Out For The New Year’, instead of one solely for mascaras. But as I rummaged through my mascara drawer, I easily grabbed 10 mascara tubes that have long been abandoned or have expired.

I’m a hoarder, as is my entire family, so my mum has such a hard time clearing out stuff during the annual house clean-up that we Chinese call ‘da sao chu’.

Decluttering can start anytime, from a month before Chinese New Year, to probably a week, depending on how much clutter you have and/or want to get rid of. People practise it due to the belief that cleaning sweeps away all the negative luck of the preceding year and invites good luck for the new year.

The first day of Chinese Lunar New Year 2012 falls on 23 January this year. It usually falls in late January or February as can be seen here, so 23 January is a little early which means I have to start cleaning up my messy table, wardbrobe and other territories soon!

Getting rid of old mascaras is a great start, isn’t it? =)

So here are the 10 mascaras I’m throwing out to welcome the new year!

10 Mistakes Made By the Makeup Coach at the Majolica Majorca Makeup Workshop

August 14, 2011 by Bun Bun 23 Comments

Kai and I

My girl friend, Kai, invited me to be her plus-one for a Majolica Majorca Makeup Workshop that she won a contest for. I think it’s some kind exclusive arrangement with a blogshop she frequents.

I love attending courses related to beauty, there’re just so fun to be part of – you get to play with products, learn new stuff, meet new people, and get to be 100% girly.

But the best thing about it is when you can share all the above with a girl friend, in addition to freeflow giggling, laughing at the coach’s bad jokes, catching up with one another and just basking in each other’s company.

The focus of this post is not so much about Majolica Majorca’s new collection launch, rather, it is about the quality (actually, lack of) of the makeup ‘coach’ employed to represent the brand and its products.

Inarticulation, mispronouncement of product names, and bad command of the English language aside, the ‘coach’ did a pretty bad job teaching the basics of makeup.

Let’s call this ‘coach’ Mr CMI (Cannot-Make-It).

During class and on the train ride home, I jotted down the mistakes or things Mr CMI should not have said and done, or could have done better. It was a list that easily extended to 2 pages of my notebook; I had a hard time selecting which ones to include in this post.

Here are the 10 things Mr CMI did that really irked me.

(I did not take pictures of the model because I thought it’d be rude to do that without her permission. I also did not include pictures of Mr CMI in this post because… it’s just not a nice thing to do.)

Eyelash Primers For Longer Lasting Mascara: Smashbox Lash Primer VS Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base

Top: Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base

Bottom: Smashbox Lash Primer

Warning: This review and comparison of the Smashbox Lash Primer and Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base contains pictures of me with ZERO MAKEUP and ZERO EDITING. HAHA! I didn’t want to wear makeup just to do a visual review and comparison of these two lash primers! You should take a minute first to think whether to click on ‘Read the rest of this entry’, LOL!
