10 Mascaras I Am Throwing Away For The New Year

January 6, 2012 by Bun Bun 24 Comments

I’m ashamed.

The title of this post was initially ‘10 Makeup Products I Am Throwing Out For The New Year’, instead of one solely for mascaras. But as I rummaged through my mascara drawer, I easily grabbed 10 mascara tubes that have long been abandoned or have expired.

I’m a hoarder, as is my entire family, so my mum has such a hard time clearing out stuff during the annual house clean-up that we Chinese call ‘da sao chu’.

Decluttering can start anytime, from a month before Chinese New Year, to probably a week, depending on how much clutter you have and/or want to get rid of. People practise it due to the belief that cleaning sweeps away all the negative luck of the preceding year and invites good luck for the new year.

The first day of Chinese Lunar New Year 2012 falls on 23 January this year. It usually falls in late January or February as can be seen here, so 23 January is a little early which means I have to start cleaning up my messy table, wardbrobe and other territories soon!

Getting rid of old mascaras is a great start, isn’t it? =)

So here are the 10 mascaras I’m throwing out to welcome the new year!

8 Days of Christmas Eye Makeup Tutorials: Day 2

December 25, 2011 by Bun Bun 7 Comments

Told ya it’s gonna be a gold look! Heh heh heh.

Wooohooooo!! It’s Christmas Day! What are you doing today? Going anywhere special?

Today’s look is very easy, I played down the rest of the eyeshadows to make the MAC Old Gold pigment stand out. It’s a very warm and classy look, nothing too extravagant that would frighten off little cousins – like these!

Here’re the products used to create this gold eye makeup look:

EYES

Eyeshadow Primer – UDPP Eden

Eyelid – MAC Old Gold pigment

Contour Area – MAC Satin Taupe

Outer V – Urban Decay Naked Palette Darkhorse

Highlight – MAC Shroom

Glam Up Your Lips With The Yves Saint Laurent Touche Brilliance Sparkling Touch For Lips Glamorous Red #11

November 27, 2011 by Bun Bun 9 Comments

Do you ever keep something away, not because you dislike it, nor are you in love with it, but because you can’t decide what is it that you feel, that you don’t want to finish it up too soon? Lol.

The YSL Touche Brilliance in Glamorous Red has been lying in my makeup cabinet for far too long and I decided to do a review on it. Maybe I will find out how I feel after this post is complete. Maybe you can help me decide too.

Everyone knows about the legendary YSL Touche Éclat, the complexion highlighter that is said to be able to conceal dark eye circles, fine lines and brighten up the skin. I don’t own it by the way, but I’ve swatched it and……… maybe I will be more objective in a review when I do own it some day.

The Touche Brilliance was inspired by the Touch Eclat, the look and mechanism at least.

Gorgeous Lip Shade

Glamourous Red is a gorgeous cherry red with sparkling gold shimmer that looks sophisticated and atas (local slang for prestigious. haha!). I feel like a rich tai-tai when I put this on. Or maybe it’s because I know I’m putting some YSL baby on my lips.

The shimmer is aplenty, but does not rob the base color of its shine; it co-exists with the red very well.

Sometimes I apply Glamorous Red on top of a lipstick, but most of the time, I think it looks smashingly good on its own. In the above picture, YSL Touche Brilliance Glamorous Red was used on its own.

Makeup Look Suitable for Dance Lessons or Maybe the Gym

September 19, 2011 by Bun Bun 7 Comments

Some people might think it is silly to get all dressed up for a workout session, be it on the dance floor or the gym. You are going to sweat it out anyway, right?

Yes, I am going to sweat it all out, but I want to look good doing it. Or at least, less horrifying. Haha!

While I prefer going all naked on the face when I go to the gym because gym workout is mostly a solo activity, I do make an effort to put on some makeup when I go for dance classes that require social interaction. (Oh, I just started taking up Salsa lessons and social dance sessions are great fun!)

Not because I want to bat my eyelashes at the opposite sex or impress people with my makeup skills and color coordination under the low lights, but because makeup gives me the confidence to get into the groove and dance better.

You want to make yourself feel good while exercising, so if hot pink shoelaces or a colorful bandana gives you that extra ounce of motivation, go for it! For me, some light eyeshadow color, eyeliner, and mascara works for me.

So here’s what I wore to a salsa dance class two weeks ago!

FACE

Face Primer – Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15

Foundation – Lancome Maqui Blanc MiracleLiquid Foundation SPF 26/PA++ (with Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki Brush)

Powder – MAC Studio Fix Foundation NC 25 (with EcoTools Blush Brush)

EYES

Eye Primer – Urban Decay Primer Potion Original

Lid – MAC Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow (with MAC 239)

Contour Area – MAC Peaches blush (with MAC 239 and MAC 217)
