I Found A Perfect Foundation Shade Match In Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation!

January 16, 2012 by Bun Bun 26 Comments

HANDS UP! Who could not help but find themselves running out to get a bottle of the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation after watching Lisa Eldridge’s video on how to create a flawless foundation finish?

When I first watched that video, I was like ‘WOW! This must be the best foundation in the world!’, then on second thoughts, ‘Meh, must be one of those sponsored products… that’s why she’s saying all these nice stuff’. But as the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation got utilized in many of her other videos, coupled with some research done on my own, it seemed the consensus that it’s a must-have drugstore foundation!

I wanted to wait for a sale, as I felt I had more than enough foundation to see me through for a long time, and so… buying another foundation at a sale would help to reduce the guilt of owning one too many. No? *grins*

The 30% off Singapore Tampines BHG sale came at the right time and the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation was one of the two Bourjois foundations I purchased. I reviewed the Bourjois Flower Perfection Foundation earlier.

Great Match For Skin With Yellow Undertone

Even though the ‘auntie’ (it’s how we address any older woman in Singapore) was just a promoter at the Bourjois counter, and not a qualified MUA, I was glad she recommended the right foundation shade for me. Some promoters are rather hopeless, they’ll just pour a big glob of foundation on your hand, spread it the length of your arm and say “This also can, that also can. Up to you”. Grrrr.

While the Bourjois Flower Perfection Foundation 52 goes on slightly pink on my skin, the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in 52 is a perfect match for my MAC NC20-25 skin tone.

I’m surprised a European makeup brand, and despite complaints that the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation has limited range of shades, can produce a foundation shade that is so suitable for Asian skin, which typically has yellow undertones.

You can see the Healthy Mix Foundation is more yellow and it fits me to a T!

Oh, recently a friend commented that I look like Little Miss Sunshine:

Must be all that yellow in my skin and hair. LOL! But he also did mention it’s coz I always appear cheerful and smiling. :D

MAC Studio Fix Foundation NC25 Review – For Great Coverage and Convenience!

October 20, 2011 by Bun Bun 12 Comments

Before I started using liquid foundation, it was compact powders all the way. They are easy to apply, great for travel, and most brands carry them. Mid-way, I switched to mineral foundation having heard all the good stuff about it. I tried the Bare Escentuals Mineral Foundation but my skin didn’t react well too it. So I went back to compacts and one of my favorites was the MAC Studio Fix.

I liked it so much I went out to get a backup, way before the first one panned out. When something’s that good, you just wanna use it forever, right? =DDD

Evens Out Skin Tone

I have under eye circles, redness around the nose, uneven skin tone aplenty. The MAC Studio Fix Foundation does quite a good job in drastically reducing all these imperfections. It does not hide hideous acne well on its own though.

Sigma F80 Kabuki Brush: To Apply Liquid Foundation For That Flawless Airbrushed Effect

September 30, 2011 by Bun Bun 20 Comments

If there is one face brush I had to choose, and one brush only, to apply everything from foundation to contouring powder to bronzer to blush to highlight, it would be the Sigma F80 Flat Top Synthetic Kabuki Brush.

When I made the switch from compact foundation to liquid foundation (*ahem* powder accentuates fine lines. Signs of aging), I didn’t know how to apply liquid foundation properly. Recommendations included the use of fingers, makeup wedges, makeup the expensive MAC 187 and Beauty Blender.

I never liked applying liquid foundation with my fingers because firstly, how clean can your fingers get? Secondly, some liquid foundations take such effort to wash off! The Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation is one – it just makes the fingers and hand all oily and yucky. Lastly and most importantly, the use of fingers to apply liquid foundation never gave me that effect Sigma F80 has.

As for makeup wedges, I bought a pack of 20 and the remaining pack of 15 are still sitting there pretty, waiting for the day I will use them for… art and craft, maybe? They soak up so much liquid foundation product and leave little to apply on the skin! Disastrous! And they’re not exactly environmentally-friendly, what with all that disposable throwing away business, ya know~

I did a lot of research on the best brush to apply liquid foundation with, and it came down to 2 brushes – the MAC 187 Duo Fibre Brush (U$42.00) and the Sigma F80 Flat Top Synthetic Kabuki Brush (U$16.00).

Foundation for Daily Use: Lancôme Maqui Blanc Miracle Natural Brightening Creator Liquid Foundation SPF 26 BO-01

September 25, 2011 by Bun Bun 12 Comments

I was hearing a lot about the New Lancome Maqui Miracle product range that promises to ‘unveil your skin’s radiance with the new Aura-Bright technology’.

I never get taken in to bombastic words that merely describe some new formula tweaked from the old. On the other hand, I get deceived by the highly photoshopped faces that model for the brand and products. HAHAHA!

The MAKE UP FOR EVER Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation is a great love of mine due to the matte finish it gives, but it goes on a little rich and perhaps because of its opaque squeeze tube, I never know how much of the product is left. So I feel insecure about it running out soon.

A light-weight foundation for everyday use would be ideal. Then I chanced upon the Lancome Maqui Blanc Miracle which is made in Japan and specifically for Asian skin. HOORAY!

‘DESIGNED FOR ASIAN SKINS’

Best Foundation For Oily Skin in Humid Weather: MAKE UP FOR EVER Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation

August 28, 2011 by Bun Bun 11 Comments

Anything that has ‘MAT’ in it makes me sit upright, my eyes open doubly large, and forget to blink as I read review after review of how that product mattifies the skin, controls oil, and reduces shine. I’m a mattifying junkie, whatever that means. Haha!

I was actually doing reasearch on the Make Up For Ever HD Foundation but wasn’t convinced it was good for me since many claim it gives a dewy finish. I try to avoid foundations that promise a dewy finish because for oily skins, a dewy finish more often than not melts into a greasy finish. It was with great excitement that I discovered the MAKE UP FOR EVER Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation!

If you have oily skin like me, live in a hot and humid climate like Singapore, or just want a solution to keep your face less shiny, then buckle up and explore what I think is the best mattifying foundation yet! YAY!

From Sephora:

A shine controlling, oil-free, water-resistant, complete coverage liquid foundation.

Hides imperfections, evens out skin tone, and mattifies with a non-oily, perfectly powdered finish. The result is flawless and lasts for hours.

Although this foundation provides full coverage, the end result is completely adjustable to fit your needs – a little goes a long way.

Packaging

Packed in a lightweight, frosted, rubber-textured bottle, the Mat Velvet + Foundation travels well without you having to worry about it spilling or breaking. Think easily breakable glass bottles like Revlon Colorstay Foundation and Lancome Maqui Blanc Miracle Foundation. The MUFE foundation bottle is so light I thought it had less content than the other brands! But nope, they all contain 30ml.
