Colorful Eye Makeup Tutorial: Asians Can Rock Multi-Color Eye Makeup Looks Too!

September 1, 2011 by Bun Bun 16 Comments

It’s a good thing I always write down, somewhere, the products used for makeup looks. I knew I would be less shy to put up more makeup looks one day. Yup, I have trouble with putting pictures of myself up on my own blog. I’m shy.

It’s just so weird seeing photos of myself on my blog, even though I have thousands of them on facebook. Maybe it’s because in those photos, I’m not smiling by myself into the camera, or taking close-up shots of my eye/brow/cheek/lip.

Besides, it’s so much harder to take photos of oneself! There’s always something wrong – stray strands of hair falling over the eyebrow, some fleck of dust sitting on the cheek, a tiny crumble of biscuit on the lip. For every photo selected, I have just about 20 variations of that, maybe tilting one degree to the left, or twelve degrees to the right. Gah!

I think I just have to get used to it.

So let’s start with a colorful look I did some time ago, when I still had my curly hair (gawd, looking at these photos make me miss them so much!).

You will need the following:

Face:

Face Primer – Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel

Foundation – Stage Cosmetics Photo Pro Foundation (02 Take 1 and 03 Take 2)

Concealer – Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer (Light Golden)

Cheeks:

Contouring Powder – MAC Gold-Go-Lightly Studio Careblend Pressed Powder

Blush – NARS Orgasm Blush

Highlighter – MAC Beauty Powder Too Chic

Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach Blush Review: For Beautiful, Warm, Peachy Cheeks!

August 10, 2011 by Bun Bun 3 Comments

I don’t own an embarrassing truck load of blushes because on my cheeks, it’s either nothing, or pink, or coral. I’m boring like that when it comes to blushes. Due to non-existent cheekbones, I spend more time on my best features – my eyes – to draw attention away from my flat cheekbones to my played up eyes.

I thought I’d heard too much good stuff about the Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach Blush so it was only time that it promptly went into my basket when it waved at me. Yup, I don’t look at makeup, they just stand up and wave at me, shouting “HEY JULI! IT’S MY TURN TODAY!”. Hoho.

Retro Packaging

Too Faced, like Urban Decay and Benefit, likes to package their powder products in paper boxes, albeit very sturdy cardboard ones. Another popular cardboard-made palette is the customizable makeup Z-Palette. I think paper gives a lot more room for design elements, metal probably makes printing a little more challenging.

Paper is more environmentally friendly too! Normally I shun the Too Faced palette boxes because they are wayyyy too bulky, but this one is just right.

On the cover of Papa Don’t Peach is a Madonna look-alike pinup doll of the 50’s. Wavy hair, highly arched and waxed eyebrows, crazily thick eyelashes, red lipstick and of course, warm peachy cheeks. So very retro. The packaging makes me wanna play dress up in a polka dot dress and dance a-go-go.

My Travel Makeup Essentials For A Seven Day Trip To Taiwan

July 24, 2011 by Bun Bun 12 Comments

Besides beauty product reviews and makeup tutorials, I love reading posts about beauty bloggers sharing with their readers on ‘What’s in my purse’, ‘My top 5 beauty products’, ‘Makeup essentials for a trip’, you know, lists of favorites.

I’d just returned from a trip to Taiwan when I read Leesha’s post on what she brought on a trip. So that inspired me to write mine too! The picture above is also a Taiwan Tourism Logo inspired-picture! Must not copy exactly though, copyright issues! XD

I actually meant to get this post up long ago. Like reeeeeeaaaaalllllyyyy long ago. 5 months? It somehow got buried under and I cleanly forgot about it. But it’s a good thing though, since now I would have reviewed more products than I did 4 months ago.

Some of the products mentioned in this post I may have stopped using by the time of writing – like mascara which must not be used for more than 6 months, and others which I may have found better alternatives. It’s been 4 months, things get used up and there’s always a new contender! =)

Now let’s get started!

Here are what I brought with me on my seven days Taiwan trip!

I just HAD to bring that many makeup items. And I haven’t even started on the tools yet!

I really tried to cut down, but these are my travel makeup essentials! XD

Tutorial: How To Transfer Messy NARS Loose Powder Into A Sifter Jar In 5 Easy Steps

April 1, 2011 by Bun Bun Leave a Comment

I’ve had enough of you, you messy NARS Loose Powder!  >.<

I make a huge mess of my table and the floor EVERY TIME I have the heart and courage to open the badly designed cover that houses the expensive product that is my NARS Loose Powder. I couldn’t bring the thing about, not so much because of the bulky container, but the potential sandcastles of loose powder my possessions would be swimming in every time I bring it out.

So one day I set my heart to bring myself and the NARS Loose Powder out of misery, and went to buy a little sifter jar to transfer the product into. I’m sure many people out there face the problem of overspill from using this powder, as awesome as it is.

See! This happened a couple of months ago. I was just going to put the container back after taking some pictures of my cosmetics collection when it just slipped from my hand and landed on the floor. And it wasn’t even the first time I spilled this product. The loose cover is just not good for clumsy, accident-prone people like myself. Bah!
