How To Get Squeaky Clean Makeup Brushes With The Daiso Detergent For Puff And Sponge!

September 28, 2011 by Bun Bun 22 Comments

Makeup brushes harbor plenty of bacteria from product residue, skin oils, dust, and old, oxidized colors. Imagine all that bacteria vacationing in the deep, dark ravines of the bristles, waiting to contaminate your skin!

It is therefore a good habit to deep clean your brushes at least once a week. I deep clean my brushes every weekend, which is considered normal for brushes used on your own skin.

I have professed my newfound adoration for the Daiso Detergent for Puff and Sponge in the previous article. Let’s continue with how exactly to get your makeup brushes from dirty to spotless in mere minutes!

Here are the steps for washing your gunk-filled makeup brushes with the Daiso Detergent!

You’ll need:

Makeup Look Suitable for Dance Lessons or Maybe the Gym

September 19, 2011 by Bun Bun 7 Comments

Some people might think it is silly to get all dressed up for a workout session, be it on the dance floor or the gym. You are going to sweat it out anyway, right?

Yes, I am going to sweat it all out, but I want to look good doing it. Or at least, less horrifying. Haha!

While I prefer going all naked on the face when I go to the gym because gym workout is mostly a solo activity, I do make an effort to put on some makeup when I go for dance classes that require social interaction. (Oh, I just started taking up Salsa lessons and social dance sessions are great fun!)

Not because I want to bat my eyelashes at the opposite sex or impress people with my makeup skills and color coordination under the low lights, but because makeup gives me the confidence to get into the groove and dance better.

You want to make yourself feel good while exercising, so if hot pink shoelaces or a colorful bandana gives you that extra ounce of motivation, go for it! For me, some light eyeshadow color, eyeliner, and mascara works for me.

So here’s what I wore to a salsa dance class two weeks ago!

FACE

Face Primer – Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15

Foundation – Lancome Maqui Blanc MiracleLiquid Foundation SPF 26/PA++ (with Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki Brush)

Powder – MAC Studio Fix Foundation NC 25 (with EcoTools Blush Brush)

EYES

Eye Primer – Urban Decay Primer Potion Original

Lid – MAC Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow (with MAC 239)

Contour Area – MAC Peaches blush (with MAC 239 and MAC 217)

Find Out Why the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eye Liner in Black Ink is a Cult Favorite

September 10, 2011 by Bun Bun 26 Comments

Never give up on a brand, even when one of its products didn’t work out quite well as you expected, and especially if the brand is widely known for being one of the first to come up with the life-saving gel liner. Oh, by life-saving, I mean no more ugly eyeliner smudges on the under eye and dreadful transfer marks on the lids usually caused by pencil and liquid eyeliners.

Bobbi Brown Black Ink and MAC Fluidline Blacktrack have always been compared with the another. Some people are diehard fans of Black Ink, while some swear by Blacktrack. Some people like to say bad things about the other too. Haha. But I think, to each its own. Everyone has different things that make them tick, ya?

There are two categories of the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliners: the Inks and Shimmer Inks. Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Chocolate Shimmer was my first purchase from the brand and it left me very disappointed. The brown of Chocolate Shimmer did nothing to bring out the brown in my eyes – it made them look sad and dull. On top of that, application was not as smooth as other gel eyeliners I have tried.

Chocolate Shimmer’s cap is matte while Black Ink’s glossy.

Left – Chocolate Shimmer; Right – Black Ink

If I had to compare, MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack wins Bobbi Brown Chocolate Shimmer in all aspects – texture, application, pigmentation.

But what about Bobbi Brown Black Ink?

Kate Gel Eyeliner Review: Smudgeproof, Long-lasting, and SO MUCH CHEAPER

August 17, 2011 by Bun Bun 17 Comments

Oh Kate! Thanks for reminding me that gel based eye liners are meant to look like thick cream, apply like butter and spread like silk! I almost forgot all of that when my MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack dried up!

And let’s not forget my unfortunate episode with the Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Eyeliner in Chocolate Shimmer Ink that was dry like salted fish from the start.

Gel eyeliner, I have come to realize, is actually the easiest type of eyeliner to apply. Natural or dramatic, gel liners are much more adaptable to the type of look you want to achieve than liquid or pencil eyeliners.

Go for a sleek thin line to define the eyes, or amp up the look with a sultry winged out line. Pencil eyeliners can never achieve the intensity of gel liners; liquid eyeliners can never stay as long or smudgeproof as gel liners.

Packaging and Size

Fresh gel liner always looks so yummy and inviting!

The early generation of the Kate Gel Eyeliner came with an eyeliner brush which many people loved, more than the gel liner itself. I don’t have the luxury of ever trying out the brush because it has since been excluded. Same price but without the brush! Bah!
