Colorful Eye Makeup Tutorial: Asians Can Rock Multi-Color Eye Makeup Looks Too!

September 1, 2011 by Bun Bun 16 Comments

It’s a good thing I always write down, somewhere, the products used for makeup looks. I knew I would be less shy to put up more makeup looks one day. Yup, I have trouble with putting pictures of myself up on my own blog. I’m shy.

It’s just so weird seeing photos of myself on my blog, even though I have thousands of them on facebook. Maybe it’s because in those photos, I’m not smiling by myself into the camera, or taking close-up shots of my eye/brow/cheek/lip.

Besides, it’s so much harder to take photos of oneself! There’s always something wrong – stray strands of hair falling over the eyebrow, some fleck of dust sitting on the cheek, a tiny crumble of biscuit on the lip. For every photo selected, I have just about 20 variations of that, maybe tilting one degree to the left, or twelve degrees to the right. Gah!

I think I just have to get used to it.

So let’s start with a colorful look I did some time ago, when I still had my curly hair (gawd, looking at these photos make me miss them so much!).

You will need the following:

Face:

Face Primer – Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel

Foundation – Stage Cosmetics Photo Pro Foundation (02 Take 1 and 03 Take 2)

Concealer – Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer (Light Golden)

Cheeks:

Contouring Powder – MAC Gold-Go-Lightly Studio Careblend Pressed Powder

Blush – NARS Orgasm Blush

Highlighter – MAC Beauty Powder Too Chic

Are They Dupes? Makeup Brush MAC 217 vs. Paint Brush Loew-Cornell 1/4″ AMM Mini Mop

July 19, 2011 by Bun Bun 10 Comments

It’s really fun doing reviews and comparing dupes of famous (and famously expensive) makeup brushes. Previously I did a dupe review on whether the Loew-Cornell Maxine’s Mop 3/8” is a good substitute of the MAC 239 – Flat Eye Shader Brush.

MAC 239 and 217 are two must-have and much loved brushes of every makeup artist or junkie. There are many brush dupes out there but people (like me who bought a lot of dupes) ultimately succumb to the softness and precision of these two incredible MAC brushes.

Also, MAC brushes are more available internationally to the masses than some premium brushes (eg. Adesign, Royal & Langnickel) and others which one would otherwise probably only be exposed to at exclusive MUA events like IMATS (International Make-Up Artist Trade Show). I hope to attend IMATS one day. Please come to Singapore!

Some people say the Loew-Cornell 1/4″ AMM (Ann’s Mini Mop) Brush is a dupe for MAC 213 (Fluff Brush), some say it’s for MAC 217 (Blending Brush). I say it’s a combination of both. You have a little bit of both, but not in a good way.

Appearance

Like the Loew-Cornell Maxine’s Mop 3/8”, it looks very much like a typical art brush and is lightweight. It is also longer than the 217. I prefer my makeup brushes to be fatter at the handle and weigh a little more.

Stage Cosmetics Photo Pro Foundation Review | Foundation For Glowing Skin

June 8, 2011 by Bun Bun 18 Comments

The Stage Cosmetics Picture Perfect Foundation had “Cleo Award Winner” stickers on them, while the Photo Pro Foundation had none. I asked the very unapproachable SA for help but she kept going back to playing Angry Birds on her iPhone behind the cashier counter every time after I asked her a question. I have higher tolerance for sales assistants at crazy sales, like the Stage Cosmetics Moving Out Sale.

The difference between the 2 liquid foundations is actually the amount of coverage. The Picture Perfect Foundation gives less coverage while the Photo Pro Foundation provides more. I’m not one who goes for anything less than medium coverage – I don’t get the point of tinted moisturizers – so the option was clear.

They were selling at 2 for S$19. Gotta grab some! But I didn’t understand their weird numbering system.

02 Take 1

03 Take 2

… and so on.
