Makeup Geek Eyeshadows Review: Because We All Need Good Quality And Affordable Eyeshadows

May 12, 2012 by Bun Bun 28 Comments

I believe, no matter how many eyeshadows a beauty blogger has in her possession, there will never a day where she goes “Okie, I’ve had enough eyeshadows to last me a lifetime and no more shall I ever buy”.

That part about having enough eyeshadows to last a lifetime is definitely true, and I think many of you share that sentiment, but to stop just because there’s enough? That’s what vanity consumerism is all about, isn’t it?

Sure, there will be times when the month’s bills hits the ceiling and you will find your makeup buying obsession absolutely reproachful, but a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do – BE HAPPY!

And nothing makes me happier than buying new makeup! (Of course there are, but you know what I mean!) The promise of endless possibilities with new shades, textures, finishes, combinations… and that’s only eyeshadows!

When Makeup Geek (MUG) launched her own brand of cosmetics, I was elated! She’s such an inspiration – famous beauty blogger and now successful business woman! I mentioned her in my Makeup Geek Haul (I got brushes too!) so you can go over and check it out.

MAC Singapore sells their eyeshadow at SGD26.00 a pot and it’s A LOT to pay for one shade, and I have barely made a dent in any of my MAC eyeshadows. They should make smaller-sized versions and I’d be happy to pay for a slightly-more-expensive-than-half-price price.

But for the same size and equally good quality, MUG prices its eyeshadows at a fraction of MAC’s! MAC – USD14.00; MUG – USD 6.00.

Let’s take a look at my first seven (and definitely not last!) Makeup Geek eyeshadows.

MUG Eyeshadow – Unicorn

Dupe For Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil Zero: Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner Deepest Black… Really?

March 29, 2012 by Bun Bun 9 Comments

That gorgeous blue-teal eyeliner is Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner Blue Remix.

Would you give up a few strands of eyelashes – every single time – in exchange for a bold and black waterline?

I wouldn’t! Not even for the blackest of black waterline or lashine! And neither would anyone in the right mind, right?

I’ve stressed on the importance of tight lining in several posts – why you should tightline your eyes, tips on tightlining, and how to tightline your eyes. But as much as I love a nice, bold, black waterline, using an eyeliner that causes the demise of precious eyelashes is an intolerable trade-off. If I continued using the Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner, I’d probably be left with none now!

The Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner in Deepest Black is widely cheered upon as the best dupe for the legendary Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero.

Mitchy-Matchy: Colorful Eye Makeup To Go With A Colorful Dress

January 23, 2012 by Bun Bun 23 Comments

The basic rule is that if your outfit of the day is colorful or outstanding in some way or other, eye makeup should be kept to be a minimum – at least with the colors used – so that the different elements do not contest against one another.

That’s what I normally adhere to, but you see,

“In all matters of creativity, rules are meant to be broken when necessary.” – Haley Langford

So for the first day of 2012, I wore a new, colorful, asymetrical dress and matched it with statement-making eye makeup.

EYES

Eyeshadow Primer – UDPP Eden, NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil Milk

Eyelid – Sugarpill Chromalust Absinthe

Contour Area – MAC Parfait Amour

Outer V – NYX Mermaid Green

A Much Requested Eyeshadow Tutorial – Vertical Gradient Method Of Eyeshadow Application

January 17, 2012 by Bun Bun 17 Comments

Hello everyone!

Chinese New Year is approaching faster than I thought. I can hardly find time between all that cleaning, clearing, last minute shopping for clothes and shoes, to blog. But you see, I love you guys very much, so despite all that mad rush, I’m doing a highly requested eye makeup tutorial today. Just for you!

It’s also a good time to launch this makeup tutorial since most girls would spend more effort on applying makeup when they go visiting so what better time than now to share a quick and easy eye makeup tutorial for the new year?

In today’s tutorial, we will use the Vertical Gradient Method Of Eyeshadow Application, a great method for those with monolids or have a fold that is very near to the lashline. These characteristics are typical of Asian eyes.

Previously, in Part 2 of the Eyeshadow Tutorials for Asians series, I used neutrals as those are the easiest to blend and would look good on all skin tones and eye colors. Shades of blue will be used in this tutorial, for those who want to move away from browns and neutrals, for a more fun look!

Products used:

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden
  • NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
  • The Face Shop Eyeshadow PK103
  • NYX Irises
  • Kat Von D Beethoven Palette Speed Blue
  • Urban Decay Naked Palette in Hustle
  • Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base
  • Lancome Oscillation Vibrating Infinite Powermascara
  • NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil EP05 Dark Brown

Step 1: Prime the Lids

Apply UDPP in Eden all over the lid first, then Milk.

Step 2: Base Color to Mark Perimeter

I love The Face Shop Eyeshadow PK103 because it is just so versatile – it works on the lid, inner corner, lower lashline, brown bone highlight, cheekbone highlight – and behaves like a chameleon – blends in with any color family!

Apply the shimmering base up to the socket line. Be sure not to leave a line that shows an obvious divide between the naked brow bone area and PK103. It’s quite hard to get a harsh line with PK103 anyway.
