On Days When You Want To Look Just That Bit Perkier, Try Garnier BB Eye Roll-On Concealer Cum Eye Care

March 23, 2012 by Bun Bun 29 Comments

Tell me, who can resist the ooh-ing and aah-ings made by the guests of the popular Taiwan variety show Nu Ren Wo Zui Da make when the makeup/skincare/hair care coaches introduce products and new techniques?!?

I have a love-hate relationship with Nu Ren Wo Zui Da. I try as much as possible not to type in the words on YouTube because I always end up feeling exasperated at not being able to get hold of the highly raved products mentioned. Firstly, they never ever state the brand or product name; secondly, they try SO HARD to hide any indication at all with their hands and camera angles! Ugh! Sometimes I’ll try searching for the entire episode’s title + ‘chan pin (products)’, but more often than not I don’t get any results. Maybe there are Taiwanese websites that share these info freely but I CANNOT FIND. Booo… :(

There are no subtitles for this video; you can ask me questions in the comment section below if you need clarification on specific parts of the videos. Meanwhile, I’ll try my best to include as much information as possible in English in my Garnier BB Eye Roll-On review.

It was pure luck and genius that I managed to find the Garnier BB Eye Roll-On one day in Guardian and immediately knew it was the one Kelvin lao shi (as he is affectionately known. lao shi = teacher) was using! YES!!!

I must’ve had a sip of Felix Felicis (‘liquid luck’ mentioned in Half-Blood Prince) that day because not only did I find it, it was ON SALE! It normally costs SGD22.90 but I got it for SGD16.90. There was no reason not to grab it. I initially got ‘Light’ without realizing, and swapped for ‘Natural’ after paying for it. I didn’t want to risk having white patches under my eye.

I am MAC NC20-25 for reference, and Natural is just nice.

The box on the right is an insert of the box on the left. They have very different marketing slogans, but essentially the same claims.

Very sheer!

10 INSTANT Visible Benefits

I think the claims of an improved eye contour are rather… duh~! The primary purpose of a concealer is to conceal dark eye circles, and once that is achieved, anybody would look fresher, more radiant, less tired, etc.

Sheer Coverage

When The Boyfriend and I meet for dinner in our neighborhood, I usually don’t feel the need to wear makeup, but the other night I was feeling a little more vain and applied some of this Garnier Eye Roll-On concealer and thought to myself ‘I must apply this more often!’. Without any foundation on, I didn’t look washed out without blush, and all that was needed was some brightening of the eye area. And Garnier did the job!

Right Eye Comparison

Left Eye Comparison

I think the left eye shows a more obvious result, coz my left eye is more puffy and therefore has a larger shadow underneath.

I don’t have serious dark eye circles to test if this works on those, but on my moderately dark circles, they provide sheer, nude coverage.

If I woke up from a bad night’s sleep and had obvious dark shadows under my eyes, the Garnier Eye BB Roll-on would not make the cut. A concealer with creamier consistency and greater pigmentation like the Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer, or Vichy Dermablend Fluid Corrector would be more ideal.

2-in-1 Eye Care and Concealer

Once you unscrew the cap, the tinted product will emerge flowing. It is a two-in-one eye care product and concealer, and is the most watery concealer I have ever used.

The silver roller ball feels cooling and refreshing when placed on the eye area, but the effect lasts for only as long as you have it there, which is like 2 seconds. Lol.

Since it is sheer, blending is quick and easy, and the result will not be cakey. However, it does settle into my fine lines. I’m not too particular about that since all concealers react the same way on me.

I would use the Garnier BB Eye Roll-on as an eye care product and first layer of concealer, then apply a stronger concealer is necessary.

How To Use The Garnier BB Eye Roll-On

(I don’t know why I’m frowning here. )

According to Kelvin, the Garnier eye roll-on can also:

  • Hydrate the eye area
  • Reduce puffiness
  • Be used right after applying sunscreen
  • As brow bone highlight
  • Conceal nasolabial folds, commonly known as “smile lines” or “laugh lines”. To do that, apply light strokes diagonally towards the temples and blend upwards.

Another important tip provided by Kelvin is that since the Garnier BB Eye Roll On is half a concealer, which makes it a makeup product, it is a must to remove it at the end of the day like you would any eye makeup. As with all my eye makeup, I remove all traces with the Biore Eye & Lip Makeup Remover. Best eye makeup remover eva.

Enriched with pure lemon essence and caffeine, ingredients known to fight dark eye circles, the BB eye roll-on hasn’t reduced my dark eye circles or reduced puffiness – in general, no improvement to eye problems, but it works well as a sheer eye concealer. It smells nice too!

Garnier BB Eye Roll-On can be found at Watsons, Guardian and most department stores in Singapore. Both Light and Natural shades are available. Retails at SGD22.90.

Bun Bun rates the Garnier BB Eye Roll-On:

Do you have a TV program that you have a love-hate relationship with? Are you easily influenced by variety shows that use and rave about products?

What do you think of this 2-in-1 eye care cum concealer product?

Oh I've seen these in stores ! I wanted to try it out, although I think my dark circles would need slight more coverage. On another note, what circle lens are you wearing? They look really natural and bright :)

Haha a love-hate relationship eh? I tried to look for the products this show recommends, and the best I could find is this: http://forum.fashionguide.com.tw/topic_cate_list.php?cate_id=134 Doesn't seem like they have a list of products mentioned in the episode easily available though. I think it might have something to do with the rules for advertising? Anyways. I don't really know how I'd feel about a 2-in-1 to be honest. I'm so used to using a eye cream and then a concealer. It's probably more for the placebo effect than actual hydration though hehe.

Bun Bun
Bun Bun 5pts

I guess I wouldn't have thought much about it either had I not watched that particular episode! That's why I try to not watch it for as long as I can stay away. I love watching Kang Xi Lai Le too, and more so because I won't feel like I need to run out and buy stuff. Lol.

I use this too, but in Canada it's called skin renew anti-dark circle eye roller. It used to only come in one shade but now it comes in two. I'm nc25-30. Quick and easy, especially when I'm running late in the morning! Also love the natural coverage and finish. However, I've had two of these and both have leaked from the rollerball area, even if I store it upright! I can't travel with it or everything will be a mess :(

Bun Bun
Bun Bun 5pts

That's a shame! Mine's been leak-proof so far; I've traveled to Malaysia and Japan with it recently and the change in climate and weather and all that commuting hasn't caused any leakage. I love the the natural coverage too when I don't want to put too much effort into concealing!

I totally know what you mean when you say you cant pinpoint the products mentioned in Nu Ren Wo Zui Da. It feels rather exasperating to say the least, but I definitely spotted the Garnier BB Roll On being used in one of the episodes. I think they arent allowed to advertise products in the show hence they need to stick a Na Ren Wo Zui Da sticker on it.. Back to the BB Roll on, well it helps to brighten my eye area and inner corners, but cos I have a more chronic case of the dark circles which never seem to go away, coverage is rather minimal. However, I like its consistency and reckon I will repurchase. Now I just have to hunt for that full coverage under eye concealer which does not settle into my fine lines...Dior Sculpt comes very close and does not settle into fine line, but I just want something slight more coverage than that...hmmm

Bun Bun
Bun Bun 5pts

Wow! Look at the links other readers have left below. That's one thing I love about beauty blogging. Everyone helps each other out! :D You have to have patience in finding specific products for each episode though, if information's available readily at all. I clicked on the links and got cross-eyed within 20 seconds. I agree the coverage is minimal, not good for heavy dark circles days! I usually pair this with a heavier undereye concealer when I need more coverage. I haven't tried Dior Sculpt - I haven't tried a lot of Dior products because they're so darn expensive. Have you tried Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer? It's got really heavy coverage and many people love it, even Michelle Phan. Me, I'm not too big a fan coz it's slightly too concentrated for me.

sharon
sharon 5pts

Joke of the day! I looked at my Garnier BB Roll On this morning and realise that I have it in Light Fairness.. faintz..no wonder it doesnt conceal my dark circles much.. >.< good thing that I use alittle of the Maybelline Mineral Power Concealer under it so at least this combi works lol.. I havent tried much of Dior's products but the ones that I tried, such as the Forever Fusion Foundation and the Diorskin Sculpt Smoothing Lifting Concealer, and their Lipglow and Lip Serum I like a lot :) But I havent had the heart to buy their eyeshadows though..I am trying out a mini version of their eyeshadow which came in a pack with the Dior Blackout Mascara for 50 plus dollars and I like it very much! i guess with higher end products we are more careful about spending, hence more satisfaction for the buck too :)

Bun Bun
Bun Bun 5pts

Lol! You didn't check when you bought it? I guess it's really easy to miss the shade coz the wording is not obvious. You don't have to throw it away though. You can use a regular concealer first, then use the BB Roll On over it to brighten the area. Whenever I go to Sephora or department store that carries Dior I'll surely do swatches on my hand. They're so smooth, so velvety! And they look so posh! I am not willing to splurge SGD90 on 5 colors that are a bit on the lighter side though. I like bold colors, as you know. :P

Try this website for the products used in episodes. You would need to know which episode it is though but it lists all the products recommended although in Chinese... Hope it helps =)

Here's a forum that discuss and list the products shown on the episode (if you read chinese). It might not have the complete list but better than nothing :) http://www.wqueen.cn/

I know I'm asking the impossible, but did you manage to identify the mascara?? In any case, thank you so much for taking the time to write your Asian eyeshadow tutorials! They were magnificent. :)

Bun Bun
Bun Bun 5pts

I tried!!! Paused and tried to analyze its shape, brush size, etc. From the shiny black tube exterior, size of the tube, shape of the brush, slant tip of the cap, and the specific location the sticker was placed to cover the logo, I have concluded that it's the Lancome Virtuôse Divine Lasting Curves Mascara. http://www.lancome-usa.com/makeup-mascara/makeup-mascara,default,sc.html?sz=20. I may be wrong, it's anyone's guess really, but Lancome came to my mind right away. Thanks for your comment on my Asian eyeshadow tutorials! Glad that you like them! :D

Jyoan
Jyoan 5pts

Actually I didn't find this worth the ooh and aaahs, but I am still using it because the roll-on is very convenient. But it neither exactly conceals nor exactly heals. So I always pair this with BB cream. =)

Bun Bun
Bun Bun 5pts

Ya me too.... I think they're paid for each ooh and ahh they make. Hohoho. They are trained to make viewers feel like those products will make our lives complete if we own them, at least that's how I feel whenever I watch NRWZD. HAHAHA. The state of my complexion doesn't agree with BB creams very much coz they're usually of lighter coverage. Not enough for my blemishes. =(
