Imagine us in these scenarios:
- Sharing a kiss with the Eiffel Tower and crimson sun setting in the background, a trip he planned for my birthday
- Spending our nth year anniversary on a lavishly decorated picnic mat under a shady tree, nibbling on cranberry scones and sipping tea
- Producing the most enviable vocal harmonies while looking into each other’s eyes
Then imagine none of them. HAHAHAHA.
Before Mr Mode proposed, I kept watching those OTT, mastermind proposals on YouTube. You know, those with at least 100 people dancing and singing in a staged surprise, complete with laser lights and dancing fountains, those that left me in awe and disbelief with the amount of time and money the man pumped in to produce the perfect, romantic proposal.
I thought of my boring then-boyfriend……………. and sighed.
I worried that we wouldn’t go far because the common advice is that a couple ought to have some common interests and we had/have none. Additionally, we are so different in almost every conceivable way – in the way we make decisions, how we react in situations, our likes and dislikes, our hobbies.
But can I tell you something, my friends?
After 15 years of courtship and 1 month of married life, I realized being so different is what makes our relationship so fun and entertaining.
Not a single day goes by without us breaking into stitch-inducing laughter; we laugh with and AT each other when either does something silly; I am completely at ease and myself when I’m with him. His arms are my cradle when I fall, and no matter how hard the situation is, he never lets go.
We are different but COMPATIBLE.
We have nothing in common but CHEMISTRY.
They say the real test comes after the wedding, after all the glitter and sparkle have settled, after the crowd has left and it’s just the two of you.
The perfect, romantic man isn’t the one who takes out all his guns to give you the perfect proposal or wedding.
It’s the one who takes the initiative to clear your dustbin so that you won’t accidentally kick it and trip over spilled trash, the one who listens instead of talk, the one who kisses you before leaving the house and again when he comes home, the one who gives you massages until his hands ache, the one who tells you you’re beautiful even when you have no makeup on and are dressed in pyjamas with holes.
Most importantly, it’s the one who tells you he’ll go through your darkest times with you.
It’s our differences and the precious chemistry we share that make our life together so thrilling, rich, and long-lasting. He makes the other half of our Perfect Duo.
50 years later, I’d still choose him all over again.
I hope you enjoyed the video! You would make me very happy (and encourage Mr Mode to take more pictures with me BAHAHA) by voting for our little love story on Her World Plus. By voting for me, you stand to win yourself an exclusive Estée Lauder Beauty Pack too!
The reason for sharing my little story today was because I recently found a pair of skincare products from Estée Lauder that work together like a Perfect Duo. This Perfect Duo tops the class in terms of COMPATIBILITY and CHEMISTRY, and this magical combination reminded me of us.
Many products are compatible, meaning they can be applied atop or underneath one another, but RARE is when two products can work together to create a synergistic repair for your skin.
