Lovely Metal Casing
When I first had the cool metal mascara tube in my hands, I imagined it’d be what Sunny’s (from the movie iRobot) girlfriend would be using. Sexy and futuristic, perhaps all our mascara tubes would look something like that in the future, or for that matter, everything makeup.
I don’t know why movies always depict the future as all shiny and metallic. It looks all sophisticated and high-tech, but at the same time, soul-less and homogeneous.
Ah! I digressed! Haha. But so yes, in the sea of black mascara tubes like the Rimmel Glam Eyes Waterproof Mascara, Anna Sui Super Black Volume Up Mascara, and Lancome Oscillation Vibrating Infinite Mascara, this Estee Lauder mascara stands out shiny well.
But it’s precisely because of its shiny metal casing that made is so hard to capture! Light reflected from every part of this tube. I took about 50 pictures of just the tube itself. No kidding! @_@
Waterproof
I haven’t been running through any rainstorm or gone swimming with this mascara, but it stays pretty much on my eyelashes until I get home after a day’s work and have it removed. That speaks volumes because any mascara that can withstand my oily lids deserves a standing ovation.
Some many people have reviewed that this mascara is too dry and its consistency is well, inconsistent between tubes and colors. I guess I’m lucky that mine was in good condition when I got it, not too wet or dry.
(Luck is really important when it comes to buying makeup products! Luck sure wasn’t on my side when I got the Lancome Artliner Precision Point Eyeliner!)
Anyway, I’ve used the Estee Lauder mascara for 3 months and it still hasn’t dried up too much. Unlike some mascaras that go on completely dry and flakey after a short period of time like the Chanel Exceptionnel De Chanel (1 month! GAH!) and Maybelline The Falsies Volum’ Express Waterproof (about 3 months), the Estee Lauder Sumptuous Waterproof Bold Volume Lifting Mascara still goes on smoothly now. It does not leave flaky, crumbly bits of black dirt on the undereye as well.
Not Volumizing Enough for My Sparse Asian Lashes
Between lengthening and volumizing, I always choose a mascara that claims to volumize. The Estee Lauder mascara doesn’t give the volume I want so I’m disappointed that one of its claims was that of volumizing.
When I wear mascara, I want to look like I am wearing mascara. Unless the subtle no-makeup look appeals to you, then one or two coats of the Estee Lauder mascara doesn’t plump up the lashes very much.
I thought that putting on more layers would add more volume, well it did, but not at a cost of having me see through prison bars. Meaning having all my eyelashes drooping down! I think if you have naturally curled eyelashes, then layering the Estee Lauder mascara on shouldn’t pose such a big problem for you.
Not Lifting Enough for My Straight Asian Lashes
Due to a difference in anatomy between Asian and Caucasian eyes, Asians typically have short, straight eyelashes that stick out and point straight to the ground. Mine, although not too short, do point straight out if left uncurled with a good eyelash curler that fits the Asian eye contour.
The weight of the Estee Lauder mascara ‘un-curls’ my lashes and makes them stick out stiff and straight in a few hours. So, unfortunately, this mascara does not lift nor hold a curl very well.
Not Black Enough
I like mascaras that are very jet black, as with eyeliners, due to my brown-almost-black eyes, and this mascara isn’t quite as black to give me dramatically enhanced eyelashes.
Out of its 3 claims, only the Waterproof claim works for me. But if you prefer natural-looking mascara-ed eyelashes that don’t look overdone, then you might want to give the Estee Lauder mascara a try. Just slap on some powder, blusher and a swipe of this mascara and you’re ready to head out to the grocery store or gym.
